MOSCOW, January 14 (R-Sport) - World No. 79 Andrey Kuznetsov of Russia claimed the first upset of the Australian Open on Monday with a straight-sets defeat of hobbled 11th seed Juan Monaco.
The Argentinian needed several injury timeouts to treat a back injury but was unable to put up meaningful resistance against Kuznetsov to go down 7-6, 6-1, 6-1.
Kuznetsov will meet South African Kevin Anderson or Paolo Lorenzi of Italy in the second round.
Monaco becomes the first seed to be knockout out of either draw at Melbourne Park.
