MOSCOW, November 26 (R-Sport) - Russian figure skating star Evgeni Plushenko has pulled out of next month’s NRW Trophy in Dortmund, Germany, to give himself more time to recover from an operation, his coach Alexei Mishin told R-Sport on Monday.

The seven-time European champion’s only competitive appearance this season came at the Japan Open last month, shortly before he was operated upon for unspecified reasons.

“Zhenya [Plushenko] won’t compete in Dortmund,” Mishin said.

“His recovery period has just finished. We’ve only just had our third training session after he wasn’t able to skate for 10 days after the operation under anaesthetic.”

Mishin said Plushenko would now look for an event to compete in before the Russian championships start December 25.

Plushenko has said he plans to defend his Russian and European titles but intends to miss the world championships, as he has done every year since 2005.
