MOSCOW, February 18 (R-Sport) - The KHL has allowed an arena damaged by a meteor strike to host playoff games from Thursday after an emergency inspection, the league said Monday.
Over a thousand people suffered cuts from broken glass as the meteorites smashed windows in numerous buildings across the Chelyabinsk Region early Friday morning, with Traktor Chelyabinsk's arena sustaining minor damage.
After hearing from a special commission, the KHL cleared the 7,500-seater venue to host playoff clashes, starting with the conference quarterfinal opener against Barys Astana on Thursday.
“The KHL received a technical report on the examination of the roof structure of the Traktor ice arena in Chelyabinsk,” the league said in a website statement.
“As a result of the examination, no deformations affecting the safety of usage were found.”
Traktor finished the regular season in the third place in the Eastern Conference.
