MOSCOW, September 29 (RIA Novosti) - Staffan Kronwall extended the reborn Lokomotiv Yaroslavl's four-game winning streak when he scored the only goal in a 1-0 win away to Severstal Cherepovets.
Five minutes after the starting buzzer in Friday's game, the Swedish defenseman hit the powerplay goal assisted by wing Sergei Plotnikov and Columbus Blue Jackets forward Artem Anisimov, who signed his lockout contract with Lokomotiv last week.
Kronwall became the top-scorer among the league’s defensemen with four goals and five assists in nine games.
Lokomotiv remains third in the Western Conference, while Severstal dropped to 10th.
Elsewhere, Atlant Moscow Region defeated Vityaz Chekhov on penalty shots.
An accurate penalty shot from Atlant forward Nikita Tochitsky, who scored twice during regular time, secured a 5-4 win for Atlant that puts it level on points with conference leader Lev Prague.
Vityaz is second from bottom after seven losses in its last eight games.
A brace from ex-Philadelphia Flyers wing Stefan Ruzicka didn’t help Spartak Moscow avoid a 5-4 defeat on the road against Dinamo Riga.
Spartak's fifth loss in a row dropped the team to 12th in the Western Conference, while Riga climbed to 9th.
