ST. PETERSBURG, February 20 (R-Sport) - Russian champions Zenit St. Petersburg are holding talks about reviving an old sponsorship agreement with Lufthansa, the German airline’s regional director for the former Soviet Union has said.
Lufthansa was one of Zenit’s sponsors between 2009 and 2010, and was not featured on the team’s shirt.
“Now we are discussing our possible cooperation. It’s very interesting, but we should understand how we can be useful for each other in this sense,” Lufthansa regional head Ronald Schulz said late Tuesday.
The new deal could be different to the old agreement, Schulz said, although he declined to discuss specifics.
“Our relations were even, as partners, now we are discussing various conditions that could be different from what went before,” he said.
Zenit and Lufthansa representatives met Tuesday and will resume discussions March 19 in Moscow, Schulz said.
If Lufthansa sponsor Zenit, they will follow in the footsteps of Russia's Aeroflot, which was a low-level sponsor of CSKA Moscow before signing a $9 million deal for shirt sponsorship in July.
