MOSCOW, February 19 (R-Sport) - Brazilian center-back Xandao has left Sporting Lisbon and signed for FC Kuban, the Russian Premier League side announced Tuesday.
Xandao, 24, signed a three-and-a-half year contract with the Russian team, who bought him from Desportivo Brasil, from where he had been on loan in Portugal.
Xandao scored once in 22 appearances for Sporting this season.
“Playing for Sporting, Xandao was in leading roles in the Portuguese league,” Kuban sporting director Sergei Doronchenko said on the team’s website.
“He has experience in European competitions, last year the Portuguese club reached the Europa League semifinals. That’s why I have no doubts that Xandao will really strengthen our team and help us at the decisive spring part of the championship.”
Xandao is the first permanent signing under new Kuban coach Leonid Kuchuk's tenure after the Ukrainian joined last month.
Xandao replaces his fellow countryman Zelao, who left Kuban last month to join Kazakh side FC Astana.
Kuban are fourth in the league with 11 matches to go.
