Hernanes has impressed with seven goals in 18 games this season as Lazio challenge for the Serie A title, and Mkhitaryan said the Brazilian was ready to move on.
“When he moved to Lazio, I was very happy to see him there. Now he could play for any top club in the world,” he said. “At Shakhtar, why not?”
If Hernanes moved to Shakhtar, he would join a growing legion of Brazilians, increased to 10 when striker Taison signed Friday, reportedly turning down Chelsea and Manchester City in the process.
Mkhitaryan and Hernanes shared a room as youth players, but Mkhitaryan admitted he no longer had his old friend’s number.
Hernanes has eight caps for Brazil, with one international goal, scored against Gabon in a 2-0 win in 2011.
Mkhitaryan has scored 10 times in 35 games for Armenia.
