MOSCOW, January 13 (R-Sport) - Vitaly Petrov's chances of a 2013 drive appear to be diminishing as negotiations with Caterham have stalled, his manager Oksana Kosachenko told R-Sport on Sunday.
Petrov gave Caterham its best finish of last season with 11th in Brazil, and has been reported to be competing with Brazilians Bruno Senna and Luiz Razia for a place alongside Charles Pic at the British-Malaysian team.
“At the moment there are a lot of unanswered questions,” Kosachenko said. “There are too many nuances that need to be sorted out.”
She added: “We’re at the waiting stage, which is linked to the team’s restructuring. We completely depend on them and can’t speed anything up.”
Kosachenko said reports in the German media that Petrov had found new sponsors were not true.
“So far, we haven’t managed to find new sponsors. Where do journalists get this information from? I’m a journalist myself and I know very well how this can just pop into someone’s head,” she said.
Russian state company Russian Helicopters and chemicals firm Sibur were Petrov's chief sponsors last term.
Petrov was the final driver on the grid to secure a place last season, when Caterham signed him less than a month before the first race.
The Australian Grand Prix kicks off the 2013 season on March 17.
